Santorini Day 2

We started the day with breakfast in the courtyard. Then we headed to the Red Beach.
It was quite a hike, and I saw several tourists take a spill.

Then it was off to Akrotiri.

Akrotiri is a city that was buried like Pompeii several times by ash fallout and eruptions of the volcano that Santorini is built on. Building styles and street layouts all over the island seem not to have changed since then. Small, rounded, and winding is still how everything is built. Akrotiri had plumbing, running water, and a lot of great art which has mostly been moved into the museums. But the city is still here, being excavated layer by layer.

Then we went to the Black Beach, where we buried Chase in the black sand, as requested.

Everything looks like this on this island. It's a calendar photographers' dream.
Then we went grocery shopping, which I found extremely interesting, and back to the hotel to dig a rock from the Black Beach out of poor Dashiell's foot.
He has since recovered.
