The Alps

Today we drove from Karlsruhe to a town near the castle called Neuschwanstein. Besides being fun to spell and try to pronounce, it is the castle that all fairytale castles, including the one on the Disney logo, are modeled after.

We will see it tomorrow.

Here are some photos of beautiful mountains and lakes:

We really lucked out with our cabin. It has a wood burning stove, a tiled stove in the living room, and that holy grail of travelers who have been foolhardy enough to bring their children, a washer and dryer!

It also has five bedrooms, and is basically wonderful. We are only paying 55 Euros a night, which is ridiculously cheap. We got it through Air BnB, and I am starting to really like them. Venere.com has sent us to some of the worst places we have ever stayed. ( For example, when booking one Venere hotel, I didn't think to ask if the private bathroom was only accessible from the freezing cold, windy balcony. Imagine my surprise! Imagine having to go out there at three in the morning!)

But that is behind us now, literally and figuratively.

Now I am going to sit as close as possible to this lovely, warm object and read read read, because nothing says vacation like getting through a few books that have a thousand or so pages each, while sitting next to a crackling fire! Sheer bliss!
